When Jess is on PrediSone, it makes her ravenous and she gets really specific cravings. She has to have it and she has to have it now and nothing else will do. Step aside all you pregnant women, you've seen nothing next to her cravings. So we've tried to make healthy options available to her so she doesn't gain a hundred pounds. She loves pears and had already plowed through our stash. One day a sudden pang of hunger hit in the mid afternoon. I suggested a few things she could eat as a snack and nothing sounded good. Suddenly, she shouted out, "Pears. Pears. I'd like to have some pears." I wandered to the fridge only to slouch back to her bed the bearer of bad news. "The pears are all gone," I said, "you'll have to have an apple."
I promised her I would get to the store as soon as I could. Within the hour, a very in tune friend was at our door with a huge bag of pears and apples from Costco. She bought an extra bag of fruit at the store and something told her to drop it off at our house on her way home.
Who else, but the Lord could orchestrate timing and specificity such as that.
Ohhhh, but it only gets better.
We are reminded about how blessed we are every day.
Today, at the Cancer Clinic, Jessica and I were admiring the cutest little hat/head band. It was clearly hand crocheted and had a little hand made flower on the front of it. It was one of the cutest things we'd seen on a bald head. I had every intention of approaching the girl to ask where she got such a cute accessory, but I was distracted by a long distance phone call and missed my opportunity. After clinic, we ran a few errands and came home, went outside to the back yard for about an hour. After being home for 2 hours, we received a phone call from a friend who said she rang our doorbell and no one came to the door so she left a little something in our car. I immediately went to the car and brought the package down to Jess. Guess what it was????????
...............It was the very hat we coveted/admired at the clinic (Identical in every way but the color).
When I called my friend to share this most amazing story, she told me she had seen one on a woman who's hair was growing back and she was wearing one at costco. Our friend asked the woman where she got such a cute accessory and was directed to a woman from Idaho Falls who hand made them. Crocheted hats and bands were ordered two months ago and sat at our friends home until this very day when she felt prompted to drive them over here. That is NO coincidence.
Jessica had a GREAT two weeks. She has felt really good and her numbers continue to impress her doctors. Her blood counts remain at normal levels and she has enjoyed the last 10 days of almost normal. In the last 3 -4 weeks, every member of our family has gotten the most recent nasty flu bug that is going around. JESSICA is the ONLY one who has escaped it. Those of you not so familiar with cancer and chemo, that is nothing short of a miracle. For someone who has zero immune system and who would be hospitalized if she did get sick, there is no question that she has providence on her side.
We ran into a good friend at the cancer clinic with a toddler who had leukemia and is now cancer free. Sooo encouraging to be associated with survivors and know that we can do this with a smile on our faces.
We've scheduled BIG fun for this weekend before Chemo and Spinal Tap on Monday.
Hat Hand made Especially for Jessica by a sweet woman in Idaho Falls. This hat is the most impressive if you feel it with your hands or bald head. That is some of the softest, silkiest yarn I have ever felt in my life. Bracelet, also handmade especially for Jessica (All the YW value colors) by our amazing friends in Meridian.
As a matter of fact, the very Chair she is sitting in, is her chair. Another friend of Jessica's had this Lazy Boy Chair at their house. It is the most comfortable chair you ever sat in. It was their families favorite and they gave it up for Jessica to have something comfortable to rest in after her treatments. You really have to experience it to appreciate. Thanks guys.
This is the one we saw today at the cancer clinic on a cute little girl. Hers was pink and what you don't see in the picture is that this is not actually a hat, it's a band that wraps around her head and buttons up with a big cute button in the back of her head. It's wide on the top and narrows down around the back and her bald head sticks out the top and the back so she doesn't sweat to death. The flower on the side is also crocheted. So, so cute, and so miraculous in it's timely delivery.
