Chemo Day

Well, Jessica is recovering nicely from her emergency appendectomy last week. Dr. Hirsch checked in on her today and said she is doing great. Her blood counts continue to come back great. Her chemistry looks good and she is feeling pretty normal.

Well........up until about 3:00 pm today when they injected a whole 2 bags of poison into her blood. Now she is nauseated and sick on the couch looking pretty plowed over. That stuff is brutal.

She did come home with a really pretty quilt and some new hats from her visit today. Little consolation for how she feels right now though.

This was her LAST round of Doxorubicin (a really nasty chemo drug) . It was cause for us all to celebrate, but we may have to wait a week when she picks herself back up from being pasted to the wall. The Doctor told her that she will never ever have to endure that drug again. You can only have 300 mg of it in your entire lifetime or else it will destroy your heart and other vital organs. She hit the 300 mg mark today.

Today was a major milestone for Jess. We are so happy to be done with this phase of chemo.
So happy to have some pretty major hurdles behind us.

She'll be at home for a few days of recovery and then maybe back to school next week.

  2. Thanks so much you guys for cheering her on. It really means a lot. This year will be like a marathon for her.

Heck, it's been like one for me already and I'm not even sick.
