Can't Be Done

No matter how much you give and give and give, you will never ever ever be able to out give the Lord. I'm pretty sure I've always known this fact, but it was just turned into an epiphany today as I drove down the road.

While listening to the Dave Ramsey show on talk radio (yup! I'm a geek!!) I listened to a man call in and share a story on giving. It was so revealing and such a great illustration of this fact we have always known. I really wanted to share it.

He said some time ago, he wanted to experiment with the word of God. He made up what he called the "Giving Game". He said that during a time when money was tight, he wanted to see what would happen if he scrimped and saved enough to give a small sum to someone in need. He then described this back and forth exchange between he and the Lord. Each time he gave, a blessing of financial prosperity came right back to him in one way or another. And so he would take THAT amount that he received and turn right around and give to someone else. Sure enough, the blessings continued to flow and an amount, sometimes more than double, would come right back into his life in one way or another. Blessings from heaven. He continued this pattern of back and forth giving all year until that first $20 investment in this game had grown to $800. He said each time he gave, financial increase from random places in his life would come right back into his life. He said he could never out give the Lord because it would always come back to him. He and his wife now make this a yearly tradition. Each year they start with a small sum and they give to someone in need. That small sum is rewarded back to them in the form of random blessings of increase. They then take That increase and give more until it grows and grows. They have had more fun with this than any other thing they've done all year.

All it does is ripple out and grow into something huge. Giving inspires more giving and before you know it, others are participating in something you started. Influence is powerful when you use it to spread good will.

President Marion G. Romney said that "a person could not give a crust to the Lord without receiving a loaf in return". That has been my experience too.
